Forever a student

So this is the fifth of eight Jacobean leaves that I’m busy stitching. And I’ve learnt something new about designing Jacobean embroideries with every leaf.

It’s easy to imagine the overall effect of a finished design, but something quite different to work out which stitches to use where and get the colours right. It takes a lot of time and patience (something I work on daily) and a willingness to unpick and restitch.

But sometimes it just works out. This leaf was one of those – it just came out right. Leaf number six, however, is not. Which is why it is taking a while.

I am extremely happy with this one though, in shades of aubergine. And using two different coloured strands for the centre knots worked really well. I am also in love with alternating blanket stitch.

A happy stitcher after this one…

kelly this is just beautiful, I wonder, do the books you suggested on my blog mean I will be able to stitch just like you? You are amazing!

This is absolutely beautiful! I love this. After looking at your stitching I would say you already have a lot of patience. Thanks for sharing it.

That looks like some really intricate stitching. Looks like it takes quite a bit of patience. You seem to do it beautifully so you must be a very calm lady.
