Yellow dreams, pink reality

I woke up this morning in a mood as sunny as the yellow wool I was shopping for in my dreams. Why I was shopping for yellow wool, I can’t say. But I think it may have had something to do with the fact that, until recently, I’ve been racking my brain to think of an original gift to make for the arrival of my cousin’s first child – a little girl.

When my first niece arrived, my mom and I made her a quilt. When her little sister made an appearance, my mom made the quilt (more stamina) and I settled for a pair of soft, pink crocheted shoes.



But I’ve been after something different to make for the little people in my life. Something that can be adapted to suit each tiny personality, doesn’t take months to make and can’t be bought in a shop. So when I came across the Kyuuto! range of Japanese craft books, that was me sold.

I’d scoured the net for amigurumi patterns before – I’ve been a fan of these amazing little crocheted toys for a while – but could only find those with instructions in Japanese or patterns a little out of my budget. And I’m not that skilled a crocheter that I can just make it up as I go along.

I haven’t decided whether to make the big or the little teddy yet. But I do know it will have to be pink – rather than that sunny shade of yellow I was dreaming of – as the nursery has been done up in shades of pink.
